How to Make a Woman Look Thinner Using Posing Techniques
Just about every woman wants to look thinner in a photo than they do, and it's often been said that the camera makes people appear bigger than they are. You can make anyone look thinner than they are using a few handy techniques:
Have your subject wear dark clothes. People always look thinner in them as dark tends to recede. Stripes are okay if they run up and down the body rather than around the body.
Have your subject stand at a slight diagonal to the camera with one shoulder slightly closer. The weight should be on the back foot and the front foot should be pointed to the camera. If she has long hair, ask her to put it in front of her shoulders. This will make her neck appear smaller.
Have her turn her face so that it is also at a diagonal to the camera. This is the 2/3rds shot and is more flattering than having her look straight on.
If you are only photographing one person, have her hold an object that can hide some of her weight or have her stand partially concealed behind some object (a tree, vase, chair). Shoot from a position slightly higher than the person to use perspective to help thin your subject. Having them look up towards the camera helps stretch double chins so they will be less noticeable.
You can hide the double chin also if they are sitting. They can sit up straight, lean slightly forward then look up to the camera. They could also use their hands to block their double chin by cradling their face between their hands.
If you have another smaller person who will be in the same image, place them in front of the heavier person to help block them. If there are additional persons to be in the photo, place the thinner ones in front and heavier ones in back. The ones in front can stand at a slight angle to the camera to make them look thinner.
Try these techniques and you'll be a hit with the women you photograph. For more tips on taking great photos, check out howtophoto.net.
